Hello, I’m April.
With over 20 years of design experience (graphic design) and a degree in carpentry, I know how to play with color, shapes, proportion and texture (and make them play nice), as well as chisel a door hinge and nail up a corner. I prioritize function over aesthetics, but believe that in most cases, they can both exist in harmony with careful thought and creativity. My design perspective is fresh; not formulaic. And as a former millwork trades worker, I understand doing the work.
Drawing upon my teaching experience, I educate and guide clients in making design decisions that result in new living spaces they fall in love with.
When I’m not helping clients design their ideal kitchens, I still indulge in marketing and graphic design.
Just the facts: Born and raised on Oahu, I spent 20 years in graphic design and marketing–some of it in San Francisco, San Diego and Virginia. I painted my home office walls kelly green and dewalt yellow because I learned that surrounding oneself with risky color choices expands one’s flexibility as a designer. I occasionally take photos. For 18 months, I operated a 5-axis CNC machine during the day and taught blueprint reading to Union apprentices at Honolulu Community College on Saturdays.
